UNIT I Role of Sales and Marketing Team Department in Hotel Industry - I

 The Marketing and Sales team is responsible for maximizing a hotel's revenue by developing strategies and business plans to increase revenue. The team is tasked with making profits from business verticals such as room occupancy, event spaces, leisure facilities, restaurants, etc.

 A sales and marketing team in the hotel industry is responsible for maximizing a hotel’s revenues by developing programmes to increase occupancy and make profitable use of its accommodation, meeting and leisure facilities.

 The sales and marketing team must maintain awareness of the factors that influence the hotel industry and gain a deep understanding of the needs and attitudes of a hotel’s customers.

 A sales and marketing team will be responsible for coordinating marketing and promotional activities to meet customer needs, working closely with other hotel staff to ensure customers are satisfied with the facilities and their time there.

 The Sales and marketing team has a substantial influence on the profitability of the business.

 The sales and marketing team have to define roles that reflect the strengths of your products and assign responsibilities for achieving the sales performance required by the company.

 When your marketing strategy builds on the roles taken on by the members of your team, they can set achievable targets and take responsibility for meeting their objectives.

Ø Successfully promoting and managing the brand

Ø Working with advertising agencies

Ø Managing relationships with agencies and partners

Ø Overseeing budgets for advertising, marketing, and promotions

Ø Monitoring competition

Ø Supervising the Marketing and Sales Department staff

Ø Generating new ideas for customer incentives and accommodation or business packages and other sales and marketing duties.

The Marketing and Sales Manager reports to the General Manager.

 INTER-DEPARTMENTAL CO-ORDINATION

 The Sales and Marketing plays a major role in delivering hospitality to guests. It sets the stage for a pleasant or an unpleasant visit. The sales and marketing team communicates the guest requirements to other departments, which work in close co-operation and co-ordination to deliver required products and services. In order to maintain the desired level of service, the sales and marketing team communicates with the following department of the hotel –

1. Food production

2. Housekeeping

3. Food and Beverage department

4. Maintenance or Engineering department

5. Security department

6. Banquet department

7. Finance Controller

8. Human Resource department
